Patience..

Few nights back while I was on duty, there was a lady came in for labour and she had some complications in giving birth to her child. Well, in situations like this especially when a lady has come for labour, husband is the only person to receive the complete detail about the condition of his wife and unborn child and that is what the doctor in charge did that night for this particular patient. But, unlike other cases, the husband of this lady refuse to be responsible for her, yelled at her for her condition and left her in the hospital. That left us baffled and unable to proceed with any procedures to her. It was then, I saw this doctor who I've admired so much since we worked together 6 weeks ago for the way he talks, helps, and works effectively, went up to her took her husband's handphone number and called him from his own phone, patiently convinced him to come over to decide on what to do next. The husband actually came by for the doctor to explain again patiently about the medical condition of his wife and he as a husband to be responsible and allow them to proceed with the procedures to save his wife and child and that two lives are on stake there! The way he talked to him and repeatedly telling him the same thing to convince him eventhough the husband was not at all listening to him and was acting like a total jerk, that was the moment my respect and admiration peaked for the doctor. I who was standing aside listening and waiting to act the moment the consent was signed, was very angry to the way the husband was acting about the wife for it was not entirely her fault that her condition worsened. Frankly, if I was the doctor handling this case, I would have given 4 tight slaps to that husband for the way he treated his wife like a trash and would have accused him for not taking good care of her that caused her condition (though Im not sure abt that..lols). But, the doctor never raised his voice or got angry, even if he had he never show it to anyone as far as I'm concern. And to my surprise, eventhough the husband never got any of what the doctor was telling fully (I can tell this from the way he was urging the doctors to make his wife deliver the baby as soon as possible as though we are the ones who's deciding when the baby's going to be out!!), he agreed to proceed with the medical care. I thought at that moment, I want to be like him in future! Because for what I know, I have very less patience and that is very dangerous being in this field. I'm trying to increase the moment where I decide someone is pushing me too far and snap at them. If possible not to snap at all and avoid the moment but I wont be able to stop the emotion immediately. But I'm trying.. Trying to be patient, to control my anger and certainly not to cry at any point. Yes, I'll be strong and when there's a moment when anger peaks in, I'll definitely think of this doctor for who he is!
